A Tale of Woe Small Business Owners Must Avoid When Doing Search Engine Marketing

From the Google guidelines for webmasters, this is the basic tenant of a website: The content must be unique. A company representative for one of your competitors called today wanting to know just how we do it. Now we are not going to give out all our secrets to just anyone calling. But there are fundamental’s of a good website that we will share with anyone.

The caller went on to say that Google had banned 300 websites of his in one very bad day. He disclosed that the content on 4 out of 5 of his pages was essentially the same on all of his sites. He went on to explain how there may have been other factors for Google to take his sites out of the SERPS but we quickly brought him back to the big problem that 80% of his SEO company’s website content was duplicated. And it was not duplicated just once, but hundreds of times.

His sites worked fine for a time. It took over a year before Google caught on, but they caught on. That was bad for him, but it was terrible for his clients. They are now without the leads that are the life blood to their air conditioning, plumbing, dentistry, pest control and other types of businesses. These companies may be punished by Google into the future for hanging out with the wrong crowd.

The moral of this story is that small business owners should be cautious when dealing with internet marketing companies. Call today and we will freely give you a key to managing your company reputation with the search engines.
